In recent weeks there has been much controversy and divided opinions in the local footballing community surrounding the senior members of the Reggae Girlz’ decision to not play in the ongoing Women’s CONCACAF Gold Cup Qualifiers. The Girlz outlined that unpaid wages were the main issue, however, the latest reports detail a payoff to the senior Female Jamaica Football team for their good deeds.

On Friday, the governing body responsible for the running of local football on the island, JFF, announced that it has finally paid out the outstanding balance owed to the Reggae Girlz, who participated in the Women’s World Cup.

“The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) is pleased to advise that, as committed, we have now paid in full balances due to the Women’s World Cup Team,” the embattled organization stated.

JFF continued its statement by revealing that they have started the process of paying the members of the Reggae Girlz team who only participated in the Women’s World Cup qualifiers and not in the World Cup.

“We will also start processing payments to all players who played in the qualifying rounds but were not in the final World Cup squad.”

In closing, the organization thanked all members of the Reggae Girlz team for their contribution to the progress of Women’s football in Jamaica; JFF also gave special recognition to the current team, representing the nation in the absence of the majority of senior members of the Reggae Girlz.

“We are always grateful for the contribution made by all our players and are happy that we have been able to settle these outstanding amounts.” “Our immediate focus is on supporting the Senior Reggae Girlz as they take on Guatemala on Sunday, on the heels of a brave performance last Wednesday.”
