Jamaicans Stephenie Ann McPherson and Candice McLeod competed for a chance to be among the 26 Diamond League champions that will be crowned at the Letzigrund stadium on Thursday night. However, the pair were unable to secure a spot on the podium.
In the first Diamond League race of the evening in the Zurich finals, McLeod came very close to a top three finish, but, similar to her meet in Lausanne, was prevented from grabbing a third place spot by Commonwealth Games champion Sada Williams of Barbados. Mcleod finished fourth in 50.03 seconds, while Williams, who has landed top three finishes in all but one race this season, finished with a time of 49.98 seconds.
The Dominican Republic leaves with a 1, 2 finish, with Marileidy Paulino and Fiordaliza Cofil claiming first and second place with a time of 48.99 and 49.93 seconds, respectively. McPherson had a challenging time keeping up with her fellow competitors and finished eighth in 52.32 seconds.
