Indian-born actress Jyoti Amge is currently the world’s shortest woman alive and holds the Guinness World Record title with a height of 62.8 cm (2 ft 0.72 in). What the 29-year-old lacks in height, she makes up for with a vivacious personality that has grabbed the attention of audiences worldwide.
Amge was born in Nagpur, central India, and was of average height until it became clear that her growth was being hampered at five years old. It was later discovered that Amge had a form of dwarfism called achondroplasia.
She attended school with average-sized children and, in 2009, was confirmed to be the shortest-living female teenager by doctors. Weighing 12 lb at the time, Amge weighed only 9 lb more than her birth weight of 15 lb.
Like the average woman, Amge loves fashion, and while she likes donning her traditional attire, she has a special love for Western fashion. However, according to the Guinness World Record, her clothes, jewellery, and even her plates and cutlery have to be specially made.
Amge has travelled the world and met other World Record holders, such as Chandra Bahadur Dangi, the shortest man and shortest person ever, whom she met in 2013 before he passed away in 2015.
Amge has appeared on multiple shows to discuss her life as the shortest woman alive and made her acting debut for US audiences on the television series American Horror Story. An avid social media user, she loves creating content online and connecting with her fans in person, though she shared that it can be tiring and overwhelming at times.
Amge lives at home with her family, who assist her with completing daily tasks. Seeking to inspire others like her, Amge said that they should never lose hope as long as they have a family by their side.
