On the heels of her successful return to the stage at this year’s Super Bowl halftime show, Barbadian singer Rihanna celebrates her birthday as she turns 35 on February 20. Prior to her performance on February 12, the artiste revealed that she was so focused on the major event that she had completely forgotten that her birthday was coming up.
The Diamonds singer was born Robyn Rihanna Fenty in Bridgetown, St. Michael, Barbados, in 1988. While in school, Rihanna formed a girl group and eventually attracted the attention of American music producer Evan Rogers.
Rogers would arrange for the young singer to record a demo tape that featured her single Pon de Replay. The producer later arranged Rihanna’s introduction to Jay-Z, then CEO of Def Jam Records, and the label would go on to sign her when she was 16 years old.
Rihanna released her first album, Music of the Sun, in 2005, and Pon de Replay would become her first hit, propelling her career to international notoriety. She would go on to release several more albums, such as Good Girl Gone Bad, Loud, and Anti.
Her successful music career would allow her the freedom to enter different ventures, including her acting and business careers. Rihanna has appeared in the movies Battleship, This Is the End, Ocean’s 8, and the animated movie Home. She launched her multi-billion dollar business, Fenty Beauty, in 2017 in a partnership with luxury goods company LVMH and launched her lingerie brand, Savage X Fenty, the following year.
Rihanna and her boyfriend, American rapper A$AP Rocky, revealed that they were expecting their first child in January 2022, with the Love on the Brain singer later confirming her second pregnancy after her recent Super Bowl performance.
