Following her philanthropic endeavours in 2022, Olympian and World Athletics champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has partnered with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Jamaica to empower young mothers.

In 2022, Fraser-Pryce hosted a Christmas treat for the children in her hometown of Waterhouse, Kingston, and granted several athletic students islandwide scholarships valued at $100,000 through her Pocket Rocket Foundation. The renowned athlete is now partnering with UNICEF Jamaica to help young mothers enrolled in the Women’s Centre of Jamaica Foundation’s Empowered Futures Parenting Program. The Parenting Program encourages mothers to prioritize their futures and provides them with skills that will create pathways for a healthy and successful life for their children.

While announcing her new partnership on Instagram on Thursday, Fraser-Pryce shared the fears that she had after she became pregnant with her son, Zyon Pryce.

“Finding out that I was pregnant was one of the scariest moments in my life. First, I had doubts about being a good Mother to my child. I also had immense concerns about the potential impact that Motherhood would have on my career,” Fraser-Pryce wrote.

The 36-year-old expressed that she suffered from anxiety during this time and said she knew many mothers experienced the same concerns that she had. However, Fraser-Pryce shared that despite her fears, motherhood motivated her to become the best version of herself and made her stronger “mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.”

After marrying her husband Jason Pryce in 2011, the athlete announced that she was pregnant with the couple’s first child in 2017. At the time, the sprinter was preparing for the 2017 track season but was not able to defend her 100 m title in London at the World Championships. However, after giving birth to her son, the star athlete returned to form and competition, winning gold in the 100 m and 4×100 m relay at the 2019 World Championships.
