Today, July 16, marks a special day; Olympic Champion and one of Jamaica’s top sprinters, Shericka Jackson is celebrating her 28th birthday.
The Jamaican athlete hails from the parish of St. Ann and started her track and field journey by specialising in the 400 metres. She qualified for her first major championships in 2014 for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. Unfortunately, she did not compete due to an injury.
However, in 2015, she competed in the World Athletics Championships in Beijing and received medals for the 400m (bronze) and 4x400m (gold).
Jackson eventually started competing in the 100m and 200m events in 2021 with teammates and top Jamaican sprinters, the fastest woman alive, Elaine Thompson-Herah and five-time Olympic gold medallist, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.
Most recently, she surpassed Thompson-Herah on the field to win the women’s 200m with a season’s best time of 21.91 seconds at the Wanda Diamond League in Rome.
Happy 28th Birthday to Shericka Jackson, one of the country’s rising sprint Champions.
