Shericka Jackson Wins 200m, Zurich Diamond League Final – Watch Race
Less than two hours after her second-place finish run in the 100m, Shericka Jackson dominated the 200m finals at Zurich’s Diamond League Final on Thursday.
Earlier this year, at the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, Jackson smashed the 200m record and claimed the title of the fastest living woman over the distance in 21.45 seconds. The athlete has since expressed her desire to better that time and claim Florence Griffith-Joyner’s title as the fastest woman in history in the 200m.
With consistent win after win, the 28-year-old is certainly capable of nabbing the top spot but will have to wait a little bit longer. Jackson easily won today’s race but was not able to top her record-breaking season best. Jackson outran her competitors with a 21.80-second finish and claimed her first Diamond League title. The athlete will join fellow Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who claimed her fifth Diamond League title today, in tonight’s crowning ceremony. Her win has also secured her a wildcard entry to next year’s World Championships in Budapest.
The United States’ Gabrielle Thomas, who was responsible for Jackson’s only defeat this season in the 200m in Doah, finished second in 22.38 seconds. Her compatriot, Tamara Clark, claimed third place with a time of 22.42 seconds.
