Speculations are that the fire began approximately one hour after midnight this morning.
According to the Jamaica Observer, the Public Relations Officer for the Jamaica Fire Brigade, Emeleo Ebanks, told the news that they had to deploy three units to the location when they were summoned. Two of the units were called from the St. Ann’s Bay division and one from Brown’s Town.
Ebanks stated that they received the call to come to the building’s aid just minutes after the fire had started at the location. On arrival, it was noticed that the fire was raging on the ground floor of the two-story building, where the supermarket is located. They quickly sprung into action, and without any delay, they had the fire under control. It took the help of nineteen firefighters to quell the fire, but after some time it was put out.
The men managed to keep the fire contained to the supermarket, so Ebanks informed the public that investigators were only required to ascertain the value of the damages to the supermarket’s contents and the cause of the fire’s regrettable beginning. According to Ebanks, there were no casualties as a result of the fire.
