Teejay Says Influential Artiste Blocked Him From Performing at Burna Boy’s Concert, Defends Sharon Burke – Watch Video
Following Popcaan’s rant accusing Sharon Burke of sabotage, dancehall artiste Teejay has stated that an influential artiste blocked him from performing at Burna Boy’s concert.
On Wednesday, Popcaan accused Burke of sabotaging his performance during Burna Boy’s concert on Sunday, as he experienced several audio issues. The Addicted deejay claimed Burke was attempting to control his career by acting as an industry gatekeeper and went on to call fellow artist Shaggy a “likkle b*tch.”
Teejay, who has been working with Burke and her company, the Solid Agency, shared his views on the music industry in a recent Livestream. The entertainer disclosed the many struggles he faced as a new artiste and said at one point, he was sleeping on the floor and had to get help to buy the necessities that his infant child needed. After the success of his single Uptop Boss, Romeich of Romeich Entertainment began handling his bookings, but despite his split from Romeich Entertainment, Teejay said he has no ill will for the music manager.
Teejay went on to share that after the deaths of his friends Grimmy Boss, Afro Man, and Snow in 2020, people began to show their true colours, and he considered leaving the industry. During the lowest point in his life, he had no manager or friends, struggled to send his children to school, and though he tried to remain neutral in the industry, multiple artistes came out against him.
While staying in America, the artiste eventually reached out to Burke and asked her to become his manager. But the industry veteran shared that she no longer wished to manage artistes because a lot of them were ignorant. As he was residing in America without a visa, Teejay said he was considering entering an arranged marriage, but Burke dissuaded him from doing that. Burke helped him get a permit to remain in the country and started handling his bookings, increasing his pay rate.
As Burke’s company was organising the Burna Boy concert, he questioned why he was not on the roster. According to Teejay, Burke disclosed that someone refused to be a part of the show if he was added to the roster.
“Somebody seh if Teejay deh pan dat show, the promota dem can keep dem money,” Teejay stated, adding that he had been blacklisted many times before.
Teejay went on to state that he had been disrespected by three artistes and that the only entertainer that reached out to him was Vybz Kartel. Teejay said that he respects artistes like Aidonia, Skillibeng, Dexta Daps, Rygin King, and Govana, then went on to praise Burke and give Shaggy a shout-out.
