Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson has resigned, the resignation was done Thursday morning. The controversial leader who was often compared to former US President Donald Trump has faced much criticism from the opposing Labour party but has never met such indignation from his party as he has over the last several days.
Johnson’s resignation comes after the mass resignation of over 55 members of his Conservative party who called into question Johnson’s ability to lead the country during this time. Also called into question were the Prime Minister’s values, integrity, and honesty, things the members say could not be fixed with policy change.
During his resignation speech, Johnson said that it had become clear that it was the wish of the conservative party to have a new leader, and there for a new Prime Minister. He went on to say that he had tried to persuade his colleagues that it was excentric to change governments when the economy was doing so poorly and they had so much to get done.
Boris Johnson has faced a string of scandals during his time as prime minister. His most recent came after a senior foreign officer contradicted him and alleged that he had lied about a sexual assault allegation made against a member of his party.
