Usain Bolt’s father, Wellesley Bolt, passed away on Monday at the age of 68.
According to reports from the Jamaica Observer, he passed away on March 31 after struggling with a lengthy illness.
The details surrounding Bolt’s father’s death is yet to be disclosed. Bolt is also yet to release an official statement on the loss.
Wellesley worked on the Jamaican coffee board for 16 years before running a shop in Sherwood Content, Trelawny, for 15 years up to 2017.
During an interview in 2022, Bolt described his father as a disciplinarian with whom he bonded over their shared love of sports.
Before the former athlete’s retirement, Wellesley and his wife, Jennifer Bolt, were seen in the stands supporting their son at several of his international track meets.
