Incarcerated dancehall deejay Vybz Kartel has announced that he has a brand new EP entitled The Appellant, slated to be released in December. The superstar made the revelation on his Instagram account a day ago while delighting his 1.9 million followers with a new black and white photograph. The image was a selfie of his face, showing him sporting sunglasses.
The EP will only be the beginning, as the deejay outlined in the caption that it would be the first part of his Exiled Pharaoh series. Concluding the post, he tagged his attorney, Isat Buchana, and producers TJ Records and Aiko Pon Di Beat.
His new EP bears a title in relation to his final appeal before the UK Privy Council regarding the 2014 killing of Clive “Lizard” Williams. The Appellant will follow his True Religion EP, which was released in late September. According to DancehallMag, True Religion, a 7-track project dedicated to his fiancée Sidem Öztürk, had sold 310 units in physical sales and streams combined in the US during the first week of its release.
Last year, the Worl’Boss entered the Billboard Reggae Albums chart with his Born Fi Dis project, which spent one week at #9. The album sold 1,290 units in sales and streams combined during its first week. Similarly, His 2020 Dons & Divas album peaked at #6 on the chart, and his 2016 album King Of The Dancehall soared up to #2. Five more of his previous albums have entered the Reggae Albums chart over the years, such as Viking (Vybz Is King), Reggae Love Songs & Other Things, Vybz Kartel Roots & Culture, Kartel Forever: Trilogy and Kingston Story.
While fans wait for the release of his new project, they also await the outcome of his final court appeal. His attorney previously expressed that he believes the case will be successful and that Kartel, who has been incarcerated since September 2011, will be released.
