11-Year-Old Boy’s Fatal Circumcision Surgery Leaves Family With Questions

In a tragic story, a Clarendon family who travelled to Portmore on May 24 for a medical procedure is left in tears and with many unanswered questions after the passing of their 11-year-old family member Jevanie Smith after circumcision surgery.

According to the mother of Jevanie Smith, Yanique Morrison, there was no issue with the surgery as far as she saw, but afterwards, something went wrong. “The surgery went well, everything, but when he was about to wake up, his heart just stop beating, a asked what happened, a couldn’t contain myself, a run out a seh Mommy they kill my baby, his heart not beating,” Yanique explained in an interview with TVJ.

Jevanie’s Aunt Cecelia Davis had a few questions herself for the medical staff at the establishment; according to Cecelia, “Why rush to UWI when you pass three to four hospitals? Why don’t stop at children’s hospital? Why don’t you stop at KPH the travelling time the traffic everything that could take place they rush him to the university I don’t understand?”

Yanique Morrison also says the family is determined to find the cause of the 11-year-old’s death and an independent autopsy has already been conducted.
