2 Million Accounts Blocked by WhatsApp Due to Spam
In New Dehli, India, WhatsApp blocked 2 million WhatsApp user accounts to prevent harmful behaviour. The first compliance report was published by the company, and it was done because of the country’s strict information technology rules that are new.
In India, the app has over 400 million users, but 2 billion users worldwide, this makes that country the biggest market.
A viral hoax on its platform was blamed for a spate of mob violence in India. As a result, the Indian Government wants WhatsApp to trace the first originator of messages, however, WhatsApp is concerned that this will end user privacy and break end to end encryption.
A lawsuit was filed in May as WhatsApp is not planning to conform to some requirements, they will only comply with some aspects of the rules made by the Indian Government.
