27 People KILLED over the Weekend in Jamaica

The weekend was supposed to be a time of death reduction however, the opposite happened as it turned out to be one of the deadliest weekends since the year, registering 27 murders.

11 murders were registered on Friday, 7 on Saturday while 9 people were recorded to be killed on Sunday, the first day of the new week of ‘No Movement’ days, implemented by the Government to stop the spread of Covid-19.

Sunday saw the occurrence of the tragic quadruple murder in Clarendon that saw two sisters, their 19-year-old nephew and a boyfriend of one of the women being killed.

One murder was also recorded in the Kingston 8 area, while another killing happened in St. Mary and one in Whitehorn, Westmoreland.

In Portland, a 74-year-old technician from Campbell Avenue by the name of Oscar Jackson was found at his home around 9:50 am, in a decomposed state with a stick pierced in his neck, by a relative who visited his house.

A 44-year-old man from the community of Longwood, Clarendon also lost his life on Sunday when men armed with guns attacked a group that was hanging out on the road about 8:40 pm. The Police were then alerted, and Matthews was found with multiple gunshot wounds.

It has been a very ironic weekend indeed, and we will need to wait and see if the same thing repeats itself, as that would be a direct message as to the true impact that the 3 days of lockdown might be causing especially if things do not change within the next few days.
