3 Jamaicans Killed in Car Crash in Cayman

The Cayman Islands police have confirmed the identities of the three individuals who perished in a catastrophic five-vehicle collision. The victims, all Jamaican nationals, were Shakara Stewart, 41; Junior Whittaker, 30; and Vinroy ‘Fletcher’ Grant, 53.
According to reports from the Cayman Compass, the accident occurred around 12:15 am Monday morning on Shamrock Road near Coral Bay Village. The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) stated that the three Jamaicans were residing and working in the Cayman Islands.
They were pronounced dead at the scene. The police have issued a call for information to help determine the cause of the crash. In the aftermath of the tragedy, the family and friends of Shakara Stewart held a candlelight vigil on Thursday evening to honour her memory.
The collision involved several vehicles, including a black Honda Fit, which the Jamaican nationals were travelling in, and which was one of two vehicles that ignited on impact. Other vehicles involved included a black Honda Accord and a white Toyota Tundra, the latter of which also caught fire.
Two additional individuals have been hospitalized due to the incident.
The Cayman News Service highlighted that this stretch of Shamrock Road is notorious for traffic accidents. This particular crash marks the third fatal collision on Cayman’s roads this year, bringing the total number of fatalities to five
