30 New COVID-19 Cases Reported – Including 4 Imported ones

The Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness reported on Independence Day Thursday, August 6 while speaking during the digital COVID-19 press conference at Jamaica House. 

The COVID-19 cases in Jamaica increased rapidly as 30 persons were added yesterday, and the total was pushed to 958. 12 persons have succumbed to the virus and died since Jamaica reported having the first COVID-19 case on March 10.

Among the recent confirmed cases, there were 11 males and 19 are females, between the ages of 6 to 87 years.

Four of the new cases were imported, three of them are now in St James and the next one is in Clarendon. They traveled from the US and arrived on the island in early July, the most imported cases have been found in the western end of the island.

Two persons who were among the four imported cases did not stay on the island.

The remaining 26 new cases are in many parishes, St Catherine and St Mary have one case each, 11 cases were found in Clarendon, 11 were from St Thomas, two were from Kingston and St Andrew.

Currently, there are forty people hospitalized, including the people who are suspected cases.  

Jamaica only has sixty two cases that are of local transmission, three hundred and fifty two imported cases; two hundred and seventy eight cases are listed as, contacts of confirmed cases; there are cases not epidemiologically linked; two hundred and thirty six cases that are related to the workplace cluster that was found in St Catherine, and twenty one cases are under investigation the public might hear about them when there is another update.

149 cases are said to be active and are now being observed. Seven cases that are moderately ill were included among them.
