Jamaica has seen the rise of some brazen robberies in recent times as criminals appear more organized and well-armed. Banks, armoured vehicles, supermarkets, and bars were all on the hit list for robbers. Today, we will be looking at the five major robberies that were caught on camera in the last five years on the island.

5 – Three Gunmen Involved In Deadly Robbery at a Supermarket in St Elizabeth

This deadly robbery took place in 2021 in Bellevue district, Southfield, St. Elizabeth, in which a Chinese businessman was shot in the head at point blank rage on camera. Following the shooting, the man responsible for the killing then proceeded to search the victim and the supermarket. However, the shooter was not satisfied as he then shot the female partner of the Chinese man in the head as well; the gunmen then made their getaway.

4 – Brazen MayPen Robbery

Following the release of the video footage of this robbery in May 2019, the nation was captured by this incident, mainly because of the boldness and organization of this group of robbers. Dressed in tactical gear, a group of men well-armed with rifles took two Chinese hostages as they had a shootout with security forces on the streets of May Pen as they made their getaway after robbing a supermarket.

3 – Shootout At Plaza In Portmore

In a middle-day shootout between gunmen and security guards attached to the Beryllium security company, who were transporting money across the vicinity on March 19, 2023. Leaving residents of Portmore traumatized. A short video recorded from a high vantage captured the moment armed security guards battled with robbers; the robbers were seen retreating as gunshots rang out at the Pines Plaza.

2 – Mandeville Bank Robbery

A Scotia Bank located in the capital of Manchester was the scene of a brawling robbery in August 2023, in which another group of Beryllium security guards was pounced upon as they service an ATM attached to Scotia Bank. In the viral video, robbers are seen firing off countless rounds as they drag bags of cash across the streets to their getaway car; the robbers were strapped with high-powered rifles.

It was also reported that as the robbers made their escape, they were challenged by police, but somehow, they still managed to leave the scene unhindered with a large sum of money.

1 – Attempted Robbery Of Beryllium In St Thomas

As robbers continued to target Beryllium armoured vehicles transporting large sums of money, the criminals struck in April 2023, this time at a gas station in St Thomas. The footage from this attack went viral instantly as two elderly and overweight security guards were seen running for their lives when they came under attack from gunmen while they were servicing an ATM, as per reports.

The gunmen unleashed a barrage of bullets in the direction of the guards, and the guards responded by running away from the flying bullets. One of the guards was also seen in the video throwing away his weapon in a show of panic. According to reports, despite the fleeing guards, the gunmen were unable to steal any money.
