(DPP) Paula Llewelyn Responds To Kartel’s Appeal Verdict

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Paula Llewelyn, said the time it took to arrive at a verdict was based on the complexity of the case and “a lot of voluminous material”. While she was being interviewed.
Paula Llewelyn stated that in our society some persons feel that because of their social status they are above the law however this ruling amongst others will prove that this is not so.
The decision is a hard blow for the many diehard Gaza fans who have been patiently waiting for nearly ten years with hopes of seeing the ‘World Boss’ walk free.
He was convicted in 2014, but Kartel has been behind bars since September 2011.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment and it was recommended that he should serve 35 years before becoming eligible to be released on parole.
His co-accused are Kahira Jones, Shawn ‘Storm’ Campbell and Andre St John. They were sentenced to life imprisonment with a recommendation that they be eligible for parole after 25 years.
Last Friday The decision by the Appeal Court(not to free Vybz Kartel) was handed down via a conference call between the panel of three judges, the prosecutors and the lawyers for the four convicted men.
With the ban on public gatherings of not more than ten persons in a place, we might see more court proceeding being handled this way, President of the Court of Appeal Justice Dennis Morrison, Frank Williams and Patrick Brooks heard the appeal.

I was present at the trial, in the public gallery at the time.The evidence was not only good against the accused? It was strong, and with the stupidity thrown in by Sean Storm, when he was asked to plead? The idiot refused and got what he richly deserved. I cannot adequately convey my lack of understanding as to how the defence could conceive any other verdict? The most damning evidence came from the defendants themselves, they had the right to remain silent, before, during, and after the commission of these crimes. They were arrogant and acted with sheer disregard for the law. The victim one might say was the author of his own misfortune, but murder is still a crime. The other murders which were left on court files, were themselves equally evil in their commission.
