JLP Councilor “Derron Wood” Dies after Reportedly Taking the Vaccine
The governing party in Jamaica, the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) is now mourning as Derron Wood, a councillor, from the Fairy Hill division in Portland Eastern, died from complications that were brought on by the Coronavirus.
It was reported that Wood passed away at the University Hospital of the West Indies, after he was admitted there the evening before.
On Wednesday in the afternoon, the councillor was rushed to the Port Antonio Hospital at first but his condition worsened and he was later sent to the University Hospital. It was reported that last week Wood got his first shot of the AstraZeneca vaccine, just days before he tested positive for the virus.
Paul Thompson, Mayor of Port Antonio revealed that “this is shocking to everyone,” said Paul Thompson, who was a close friend of the councillor.
He explained that he was aware that he wasn’t well throughout the last few days, but the sudden death was not expected. Since he was a hardworking councillor who got along very well with the people he worked with. It is unfortunate and he can only hope that he took the time to make peace with his maker.
According to one person, Wood took the vaccine before testing positive for Covid-19, see the comment below.
His cause of death is currently being heavily contested with some people saying it was caused by the vaccine while the authorities are saying he died from COVID-19 complications.
Wood won a seat for the JLP during the local government elections in 2003. In 2016 he lost the parliamentary elections to a former Peoples National Party (PNP) Member of Parliament, then after that, he lost to Dr Linvale Bloomfield who was killed.
Last year a councillor for the Fellowship division, Irvin Brown died in October at the University Hospital from COVID-19 complications.
