Inmate From the St. Catherine Adult Correctional Centre Dies
As reported by the Jamaica Star, a male inmate who was being housed at the St. Catherine Adult Correctional Centre passed away shortly after being diagnosed with COVID-19. The inmate’s identity was not released however according to the Department of Correctional Services a family member was contacted about the death.
The Department of Correctional Services states that the individual was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital after falling ill with COVID_19 like symptoms, he passed away on Monday.
Contact tracing is currently being carried out at the St. Catherine Adult Correctional Centre to try and identify other individuals who might be positive for the virus. Further reports also state that a worker from the same facility is currently hospitalised with the deadly virus.
As a result of this latest death, the Department of Correctional Services has lost three officers and two inmates to COVID-19.
