Party Boat that Capsized in Negril was Operating illegally
The operator of the Party Boat that almost caused many unruly dancers to lose their lives, was running an illegal business. Thankfully no lives were lost in this incident. Party goers were trying to flout Covid gathering restrictions when they decided to take their activity off shore.
The operator will be charged by the police because the vessel should have been certified by the Maritime Authority of Jamaica. The Jamaica Tourist Board or the Tourism Product Development Company have licensing set up to protect visitors and operators.
The police are well advanced in their investigations in relation to the breaches of the Disaster Risk Management Act.
Licensing is there for the safety of guest because there will be times when accidents happen and the coast guards will be there to protect legal vessels.
Superintendent Robert Gordon revealed that they plan to be there to protect the lives of the people on land or sea. They will also continue to prosecute those who continue to breach the Disaster Risk Management Act.
In December of 2018, 2 persons died after the illegal boat they were travelling in turned over, the coast guard was called at that time and some of the occupants of that boat were rescued.
