Buju Banton, Koffee and Popcaan TOP WINNERS at 36th IRAWMA Staging

Buju Banton, Popcaan and Koffee got three trophies each as together they were the big winners at the 36th Staging of the Annual International Reggae World Music Awards,.

Buju Banton was the top contender because he had 10 nominations when he appeared at the event. He received the awards for Emperor of Reggae & World Music, the Toots Hibbert Award for Best Album for the project “Upside Down 2020”, the Hon Bob Marley Award for Entertainer of the Year and the Marcus Garvey Humanitarian Award.

Popcaan received awards for best Crossover Song ‘Party-Next-Door’ featuring Drake, R&B/ Hip Hop Collaboration “Twist” Reggae Song which featured Drake also, and the U-Roy Award for Best Male Deejay.

The award for the Best Female Vocalist was given to Koffee, for her song ‘Lockdown’ it also got the award for Best Song, the Peter Tosh award for Recording Artiste of the Year went to her as well. At the virtual event that was held on Sunday, special awards were presented to people who made contributions to the entertainment industry.

Josef Bogdanovich the DownSound Records Boss was recognised for philanthropy. Ziggy Marley was given a Lifetime Achievement Award for being a performing and recording artiste for over 40 years. Papa Michigan, a veteran artiste, received the Special Martins International / IRAWMA Award of Honour. 

Many other local acts received one trophy each. Tarrus Riley and Chronixx jointly won the Jacob Miller Best Male Vocalist Award. Beenie Man and Bounty Killer were recognized for their May 2020 virtual performance on Verzuz. The Award for Best Gospel Song went to Gramps Morgan and Shenseea got the Best Female Deejay award. 

The Dennis Brown Award for the Most Promising Entertainer went to Sevana and the Record Producer of the Year was Jordan McClure and David Hayle the operators of Chimney Records.

Comedian, actor Christopher ‘Johnny’ Daley and Poet ‘Ras Takura’ went home with awards as well.

The German entertainer ‘Gentleman’ received the award for being the Best Reggae Rock Entertainer, Shenseea received an award for being the Best Female DeeJay and Sean Paul got the award for being the Best Caribbean Entertainer.
