Fugitive Tells Court He Is Not The Man The US Wants For Murder

The man who came to Jamaica on the Carnival Sunrise Cruise ship on September 13, and is said to have run off has declared to the St. Ann parish Court that his name is Eric Lott and not Garfield Anthony Michael Sewell, as said by Us Marshals who accused the man of being wanted in the United States for murder and aggravated assault.

The man accused of being Sewell was charged with breaches of Jamaican Immigration after he was caught on the Browns Town main road 12 days after the ship came, and no signs of him were seen returning on board at 4 pm, the time it was supposed to depart.

According to the man, he intended to return to the United States however, he said he got distracted by a female friend he was staying with for the day which led to him missing the ship and so for the rest of the time before he was caught, she was who he was staying with.

After the man accused of being Sewell was not seen in the ship with the rest of the passengers, a missing person report was filed for him at the Ocho Rios Police Station and he was later found when the Jamaica Fugitive Apprehension Team picked him up on an operation they carried out.

The man was asked to return to court on October 5th however before he took that court order he pleaded for an Attorney to represent him and was given Nathan Geddes Morrison.

In the meantime until his next court day the accused man remains remanded. According to the Us Marshals the true identity of the man claiming to be Lott is 29-year-old Garfield Anthony Michael Sewell, and he was running after he committed a murder and aggravated assault in Douglasville, Georgia.
