PM Holness Gives Jamaica 1 More Hour
The prime minister of Jamaica Andrew Holness announced on Tuesday, December 7th that the island will be getting an extra hour with regards to the nightly curfew hours while on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve several hours will be granted to celebrate the holidays as in the past.
Starting December 10 Jamaica’s daily curfew hours will be from 5 AM to 10 PM, these new hours will expire on January 13, 2022. As for Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve the curfew hours will be from 5 AM to 1 AM to facilitate traditional activities.
Holness made the announcements while speaking in the House of Representatives today, he highlights that the government wants Jamaica to enjoy the festive season ahead in a responsible way. He outlined that the future depends on how well the people behave, given more time. The PM detailed that, “It is not our intention to, in any way, deprive persons of enjoying the spirit of Christmas, and enjoying the festivities of the season.”
He continued, “I am of the view that the country has been under so much stress and so much pressure that people need to be able to enjoy the season responsibly…”
On the other hand, beaches, rivers and water parks will also get an additional opening hour, they will be open until 5 PM daily.
Jamaica’s public gathering limit remains at 10 while the number of persons allowed to attend a church service remains at 100, 100 persons are also allowed to attend a wedding. The maximum number of persons allowed at funerals is still at 20.
