The feat was accomplished last week Saturday when the Sangster International Airport recorded a monumental number of 7000 travelers that flew into the island.

The number has been the highest count since the country reopened its borders in June 2020, and the flights that arrived on the day have been recorded as to range from Charter flights, commercial and Private Aircraft totaling 52 overall.

In terms of specific airlines that flew in on the day, there were Delta Airlines, American Airlines, Jet Blue, Southwest Airlines, West Jet, Swoop and West Jet from Canada, Air Transat and Spirit, and Sun country out of the United States.

In recognition of the achievement, Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett explained to Caribbean Journal that it is a clear indication that Jamaica’s tourism industry is in high demand based on the record number of air passengers that flew in on Saturday.

As such the Tourism Minister outlines that the numbers show that the industry “remains strong”. He also stated that some of the country’s key international partners have given their feedback on the current situation as it relates to visitors to Jamaica and according to Bartlett those important figures have expressed that the country is making good progress amidst recovering from the pandemic.

In the forecast for the rest of the year, the Tourism Minister stated that up to 1.5 million tourists are expected as passengers on the island for the rest of the year. Bartlett is attributing this to the “JAMAICA CARES” program which has offered visitors to the island a safer way to spend their vacations.

American Airlines have also been reported to have increased their routes to Jamaica, which might also have a positive impact on tourism soon.
