No Permits Will Be Granted For Parties “Stick To The Protocol”
Many people across the island have been excitedly preparing for events since Prime Minister Andrew Holness removed the Disaster Risk Management Act measures, but even though there was no more curfew and the entertainment industry was in full swing again, there was still the matter of not being granted permits.
For the first weekend of the Lockdown being lifted, there were no permits granted for any events to take place.
On Friday, Desmond McKenzie, who is the minister of local government and rural development, announced that there would be no permits granted as everyone should “stick to the protocol”.
The minister explained that while he was hearing “di gate fly” and talks of many parties, he could confidently say that they will be shutting down multiple parties.
McKenzie stated that the municipalities would be making thorough inspections regarding the pre-pandemic procedures of how promoters are granted permits that are still ongoing.
McKenzie also explained that in his old constituency of West Kingston, he had taken strict action to ensure that the residents could not break the rules. The minister also spoke about ceasing liquors and ceasing sound system at parties.
“Although the measures have been lifted, there are policies that we have, that can’t be lifted,” he declared.
McKenzie also went on to say that it is being considered to retain the current system of burials being only held from Monday-Friday.
