NHT Workers Walk Off Job And Demands More Money From The Government
Since this week, public sector workers across the island have been taking a stand against the Government of Jamaica (GOJ) as they demand better remuneration, allowances and outstanding money owed.
Today, May 13, employees of the National Housing Trust (NHT) have also joined in the recent industrial action, in which they have walked off the job and are protesting with placards outside the New Kingston head office located at 4 Park Boulevard, Kingston 5.
According to reports, this walkout is due to a delay in the implementation of a job evaluation exercise that was concluded in 2021. They are also demanding an increase in their benefits.
Similarly, workers of the National Water Commission (NWC) and air traffic controllers at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston and the Sangsters International Airport in Montego Bay were involved in the industrial action this week.
O’Neil Grant, President of the Jamaica Civil Service Association (JCSA) has also issued the Government a three-day notice advising of the impending strike due to disapproval of the details surrounding the Compensation Review being done for public sector workers.
