Bob Marley’s Granddaughter Selah Marley Criticised for Wearing “White Lives Matter” T-Shirt at Fashion Show

On the heels of Kanye West’s controversial fashion show recently staged in Paris, Selah Marley, the granddaughter of Jamaican reggae legend Bob Marley, has received criticism for taking part in the show.

On Monday, West staged his Yeezy Season 9 event at Paris Fashion Week, and controversy was quickly ignited after photos and videos from the event circulated on social media. Models, as well as the rapper and conservative political commentator Candace Owens, wore t-shirts with a picture of Pope John Paul II on the front with the statement “White Lives Matter” printed on the back. The statement is considered a racist slogan by some and drew the ire of many online, with a number of people calling it tone deaf.

Twenty-three-year-old Selah, the daughter of rapper Lauryn Hill and Rohan Marley, was one of the featured models at the event and posted a few behind-the-scenes photos of her at the show on Instagram, seemingly enjoying herself alongside West.

Her presence and participation have since drawn criticism on social media. Many have expressed shock that a granddaughter of Bob Marley, who used his music to speak of the many injustices suffered by the black community, would take part in what some view as an attack on the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement in America.

While Selah has not yet spoken out about the runway show, West has recently doubled down on his decision, calling BLM a scam in a post on his Instagram stories.
