Robert Fowler’s Court Hearing to Reconvene on January 23 After Completion of Medical Examinations

Robert Fowler has been remanded and his case management and plea hearing are predicted to reconvene on Monday, January 23, 2023, for a medical update on the defendant at the Home Circuit Court. Fowler was charged with the murder of Khanice Jackson, a 20-year-old accounting clerk.

On Wednesday, Justice Vinnette Allen stood down the hearing twice after being notified by attorney Lyndel Wellesley that Fowler had yet to receive the appropriate court-ordered medical inspection.

The first time, as the presiding judge of the case, Justice Allen instructed the lawyer to enquire from his client if he had any medical examinations been done. Upon his return to court, Wellesley updated the courtroom that even though an ultrasound was scheduled on the defendant’s behalf to be done, it was negligent in being carried out.

Prior to the second time that the hearing was stood down, the custody officer’s presence was requested by the judge via Zoom call to answer why the accused had not been brought to the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) for treatment.

In answer to the question, the officer clarified that as Fowler still had outstanding blood tests to redo from a year ago that are to be carried out at the Blood Bank, he was not taken to KPH. It was revealed to the court after the judge asked for a specific time frame that the accused would be taken to the Blood Bank on Monday, October 31, 2022, in light of a few logistic challenges.

Jackson, an Independence City resident from Portmore St. Catherine was reported missing, and just two days after the report was filed on March 26, 2021, she was found dead.

Her body turned up in an open lot, already decomposed, near the Portmore Fishing Village.

Fifty-year-old mechanic Fowler, also known by the moniker ‘Backra’, was reportedly taken into custody and charged after confessing to Jackson’s murder.
