Kanye Returns to Twitter After Having Instagram Account Restricted and Calls Out Mark Zuckerberg
Amid the massive public backlash he has received and his many ongoing Instagram squabbles, Kanye West returned to Twitter to call out Instagram’s owner, Mark Zuckerberg, after his account was restricted and teased his 2024 presidential campaign.
West, who legally changed his name to Ye in 2021, has consistently remained in the headlines during his divisive and controversial actions and statements. His latest controversy, a “White Lives Matter” t-shirt modelled at his recent Paris fashion show, has placed him at odds with his fellow entertainers such as P. Diddy. Amidst the pushback he has received following the runway show, West used Instagram to vent, recently posting private messages between him and Diddy.
The artist has used the social media platform to express his frustrations many times before, both with his personal family life with his ex-wife Kim Kardashian and his professional life and partnership with GAP and Adidas. However, his latest post appears to have gone too far, with Instagram parent company Meta confirming with Forbes on Saturday that the rapper’s account was restricted and some of his posts, reportedly viewed as antisemitic, deleted. In one of the messages from West to Diddy that was posted on Friday, the rapper stated,
“Ima use you as an example to show the Jewish people that told you to call me that no one can threaten or influence me,” a statement the American Jewish Committee has since called antisemitic.
Though Meta has not confirmed the deletions of these posts, they can no longer be seen on the artiste’s page, and a spokesperson for the company shared with Forbs that West had violated the company’s rules and policies and that previous content from his account was removed.
With his usual mode of expression no longer an option, West made a return to Twitter after two years, calling out Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, captioning an old photograph of both men with, “How you gone kick me off instagram. You used to be my nigga.”
Tesla CEO and potential future owner of Twitter, Elon Musk, responded to West’s tweet with a welcome message.
“Welcome back to Twitter, my friend,” Musk wrote.
West had last used Twitter after his failed run for president in November 2020, the artiste posting a picture of himself in front of a section of a map of America with the caption KANYE 2024. On Friday, possibly teasing a 2024 presidential bid again, West posted a photo of a black cap emblazoned with 2024. In his 2020 campaign, he was only able to get on to 12 state ballots, receiving roughly 60,000 votes across the 12 states.
