Manchester United Player Mason Greenwood Released On Bail
Manchester United footballer Mason Greenwood was granted bail on Wednesday following a private court hearing at Minshull Street crown court. He is facing charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling behaviour, and assault.
Bail was granted by Judge John Potter with the conditions that the 21-year-old professional forwarder is prohibited from contacting witnesses including the complainant and must reside in Bowdon, near Altrincham in Greater Manchester.
He was arrested on Saturday by the Greater Manchester Police (GMP) for breaching the conditions of his first bail that was set in January 2022. After this arrest, he appeared in the Manchester magistrates court the following Monday, however, a judge refused to grant bond.
The charges against Greenwood are stemming from one woman, an October 22, 2021, allegation of rape and a December 2021 allegation of assault after images and videos were posted online. Additionally, the charge of controlling behaviour reportedly happened in November of 2018.
Greenwood remains suspended by Manchester United since January 2022, “pending the outcome of the judicial process.” Previously, the club reportedly stated that he is still in receipt of a full salary, which ranges upwards from £75,000 per week during the suspension.
He also lost his sponsorship with Nike and Electronic Arts removed him from active squads on its FIFA 22 game.
