Bounty Killer Declares Victory in Lawsuit of Nearly J$60 million in Royalties Against Othman Mukhlis

Dancehall veteran Bounty Killer has declared victory in the legal action he brought against Othman Mukhlis to recoup about J$60 million in royalties. On his Instagram page, he revealed that the case had been resolved in his favour, adding that the defendant would now have to pay him “every revenue owed.”

In June, Bounty, born Rodney Price, filed a lawsuit against Jamdown Music Limited’s CEO in the High Court of Justice in London. The lawsuit that was taken out against Mukhlis and his company in June, sought to recover nearly JA$60 million in royalties that the record label owner allegedly withheld when he started collecting for the artiste in 2002.

Additionally, the lawsuit alleges that Mukhlis, a British native, made a “fraudulent misrepresentation” at the time of the agreement, allowing him to receive a 15% fee on the royalties collected. The discrepancies were discovered by the entertainer’s former manager, Julian Jones-Griffith, who informed the artiste. Bounty had subsequently asked that the agreement be cancelled and that Mukhlis and Jamdown give an account of the royalties received, repay him in full, pay interest accrued over the past 20 years, and cover his legal costs.

In response to Bounty’s complaint, Mukhlis and Jamdown’s attorneys filed a countersuit to address the artiste’s allegations and demands. However, in August, Mukhlis, through Jamdown Music Limited, had requested that the legal proceedings be frozen in the lawsuit against him so that “they can negotiate.”

The Warlord took to Instagram yesterday with an update on his legal battle. He wrote, “Following all the recent publicity about my legal situation with Othman Mukhlis /Jamdown Limited / Abood Music Limited, I can confirm that this matter has been fully resolved now with a full and final settlement of affairs between us.” Bounty made the statement about the defendant paying “every revenue” owed to him when responding to an IG user who said, “Yes I. It is time.”

Dancehall music producer Jazzwad and Bounty’s longstanding manager Paul “Bankey” Giscombe reacted to the post with jubilant responses. “Glory to the most high every time Bredda @grunggaadzilla,” Bankey commented.

“Glad to hear that,” Jazzwad, the one responsible for Bounty’s breakthrough smash Coppershot on the General riddim, said in response to the news. “Give to Caesar what is due to Caesar 🙏🏽.”
