Buju Tells DJ Khaled “Thank You” and Takes Picture With Album Plaques
Renowned reggae artiste Buju Banton took to Instagram on Saturday to express his gratitude to DJ Khaled. Buju Banton, who was incarcerated from December 2009 up until December 2018, was featured on the hip-hop producer’s 11th studio album in 2019, which he named Father of Asahd. The album saw Banton appear on the tracks Holy Mountain and Holy Ground, starting and ending the album respectfully.
Khaled’s love for Jamaican music is well known, hence the reason why he returned to the island’s artistes with his 12th studio album, Khaled Khaled, which featured appearances from Bounty Killer, Capleton and again, Buju Banton.
In the Instagram post by Buju Banton, he can be seen holding plaques to the left and right of him that were sent to him by Khaled and signify the albums being certified platinum. Buju Banton added the caption, “WE STRIVE WE LABOUR WE ENDURE WE PERSEVERE.” Supporters including Dj Khaled then flooded the comment section of the Instagram post, expressing their love for the Jamaican artiste.
On the other hand, in December 2022, Buju Banton’s famous reggae counterpart, Sizzla Kalonji posted a video of himself and others ranting over the plaques when he received them. Sizzla did not share the same sentiment as Buju when he received copies of the platinum album plaques.
Kalonji appeared on Dj Khaled’s 11th studio album as well as the album Grateful.
Sizzla expressed his complete displeasure with the size of his name on the plaques, and he took to Instagram to express that he felt utterly disrespected, knowing that he put so much work into making the albums successful. While dismantling the certified album plaques with a knife, Kalonji and his colleagues carefully removed images of Dj Khaled’s son, claiming that the child was innocent.

After Kalonji was satisfied with his mutilation of the commemorative ornaments, he set them on fire. He made note that he and the community of August Town were responsible for the success of Khaled’s fruitful career and that they were owed much more than just two plaques.
Days after Sizzla carried out the act, a picture surfaced of Capleton posing with a similar-looking plaque to the one that was broken and set on fire. The Rastafarian can be seen holding on to the plaque from one side while he smiles for his picture to be taken.
