“Whisper” Earns Deserved Call-up To Senior Team Training Camp

Phoenix Football Academy has produced yet another gem in their midst with the emergence of Jamaican wonderkid, Dujuan “Whisper” Richards, who dominated the just concluded Issa Schoolboy competitions. Still only a teenager, the talented 17-year-old striker earns his first senior call-up for the Reggae Boyz under new head coach Heimir Hallgimsson.

Dujuan Whisper’ Richards has been named in a squad of 32 local-based players who have been called up by the Reggae Boyz’ head coach to a training camp at the University of the West Indies (UWI), commencing Tuesday, January 17, the training camp will run for two days. In preparation for the upcoming Nations League, the Reggae Boyz are fine-tuning their squad.

In a recent interview, the young prodigy responded to getting his first senior call-up. “Alex Ferguson [ex-United manager] once said that if you are good enough, you are old enough. So I am just hoping I am good enough,” explained Richards.

The youngster also said the call-up was a wonderful surprise for him, and he hoped to go to the training camp to do his best and to show his class.

In the recently-concluded ISSA schoolboy competitions, the 17-year-old enjoyed a breathtaking season with Kingston College, scoring 30 goals and making 19 assists. Last weekend, he also stood out for the urban area All-Manning team in their clash against the rural area All-Dacosta team, scoring a goal against the local all-Dacosta team.
