Romeich, founder of Romeich Entertainment Ltd. and Major Marketing, announced on Wednesday that he will be hosting a job fair on Friday at his company’s headquarters in Kingston. The available job opportunities drew the attention of many, but the entry fee of $1,000 for an interview was deemed strange by some viewers.

Some labelled it a scam, noting that not all the individuals interviewed would gain employment and highlighting that some may not be able to afford the fee. Other viewers jumped to Romeich’s defence, questioning why the cost of applying for a job overseas via an agency was not met with the same scrutiny.

Some suggested that it was to weed out idlers from the event and ensure only interested and qualified individuals would attend. However, Romeich did not explain the fee and quickly clapped back at his critics. According to the businessman, he is doing something that has not been done in Jamaica and is providing employment, yet people are criticising him for the fee.

Romeich described the criticism over the fee as a fault in Jamaican culture and expressed dejection that people are not willing to invest in themselves. Romeich went on to state in his post to Instagram and his response to a critic that the people who did not agree with his methods did not have to attend the event or join his team.
