Masicka released his first studio album, 438, in 2021 independently through Genasyde/1Syde Records, with the project later becoming the third-best-selling Jamaican album the following year. Highly praised, 438 made its debut on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart at #2.

Following suit, Generation of Kings has also made its debut at #2 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart following its release on December 1. The most popular reggae albums in the US are ranked on Billboard’s weekly Reggae Album chart, which is based on sales and streaming data measured in equivalent album units.

One unit represents an album sale or can be comprised of ten singles sold from an album, 1,250 paid streams from the album, or 3,750 ad-supported streams. According to reports from DancehallMag, the 17-track album sold 3,500 units from sales and streaming during its first week of release in the United States. Generation of Kings‘ numbers are inclusive of 600 copies in pure album sales.

438 had sold 2,864 units, which consisted of 733 pure copies when it made its debut on the chart in 2021 in its first week. Generation of Kings, which is Masicka’s first project to be released following his partnership with Def Jam Recordings, also debuted on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart, claiming the #14 spot.

The Heatseekers Albums chart ranks the sales by new and developing musical recording artistes on a weekly basis. The album had previously surpassed Bob Marley’s album Legend on the US iTunes reggae charts, claiming the #1 and #2 spots.
