Jamaican Alex Powell Attains Pole Position in the F4 UAE Championship in Abu Dhabi

Jamaican Alex Powell claimed a pole position in the first race of Round 2 at the F4 United Arab Emirates Championship.

The eighth season of the championship kicked off this month and will conclude in February. Powell is currently competing in his debut season in the championship and races for the Italian motorsport team Prema Racing’ under the Indian motorsports team Mumbai Falcons Racing banner.

On Saturday, the driver, who is the cousin of retired Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell, skillfully navigated the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi to secure the top spot in Q1 in the qualifying rounds. In addition to claiming a pole position in the championship, Powell also placed fourth in Q2.

Following his impressive displays on the track, the young racer shared his excitement to have claimed his first pole position with his supporters on Instagram.

“P2 in Race 1! Happy to get my first podium in F4, it’s another step in the right direction. Still lots of room for improvement so I’ll send it in Race 3 tomorrow! Let’s gooooo 💪🏼🙌🏼,” Powell wrote on Saturday.

Powell is the son of Jamaican rally driver John Powell, and began racing at 11 years old. In 2023, Powell placed an impressive second in the FIA Karting World Championships and ranked third overall in the FIA European Championships.
