When Will Chronixx Return With New Music?

Years after he last released new music, fans of Reggae artiste Chronixx are still left speculating when or if they will see the return of the Reggae hitmaker. The St. Catherine native began music at a young age but rose to stardom in the mid-2000s amid a new wave of young Reggae artistes.

Building upon the foundation created by veterans such as Richie Spice, Sizzla, and Reggae legend Bob Marley, Chronixx found success among a generation that also saw the rise of singers Etana and Protoje.

The artiste released a number of highly praised singles, notably Behind Curtain, Warrior, Capture Land, Like A Whistle, Here Comes TroubleSmile Jamaica, I Can, Skankin’ Sweet etc. As Chronixx became a fixture at both local and international music festivals, the singer appeared to have the makings of a standard-bearer for his generation’s Reggae movement.

However, Chronixx has taken a step back from releasing new music over the past few years. In February, he called out streaming platform Spotify for allowing unauthorised uploads of music to his account by little-known artistes hoping to capitalise off of his name and musicians like him.

Chronixx expressed sarcastically in a post on his Instagram Stories that they can continue making the uploads as he will not be releasing new music soon. “I advise more people to go put songs up on my Spotify [ … ] Keep the releases busy. I don’t have any releases scheduled for the near future,” Chronixx wrote.

The Smile Jamaica singer has also vastly reduced his online presence, with his last Instagram post made in January. As for his music releases on YouTube, the artiste’s last upload was a music video in February for his song Tenement Yard (News Carryin’ Dread) featuring Inner Circle, notably the video was initially released years ago, hence it’s not a new release.

The track was originally released on his 2016 album Roots & Chalice. In regards to Chronixx’s last new release on the platform, Never Give Up, the single was released on April 1, 2022. Some fans have questioned if his retreat from the public’s eye is connected to his appearance at a Rastafarian protest in 2023, during which a fellow Rastafarian seemingly hurled insults at the singer.

Whatever the reason may be, recent statements made by the Reggae artiste do not suggest that he will be releasing new music anytime soon.
