Fast-rising track star Kishane Thompson stunned many people across the world when he clocked the fastest time in the world this year. However, the young athlete thinks he is capable of even more.
While some may not have been familiar with the athlete months ago, his winning time of 9.77 seconds in the 100m at Jamaica’s National Trials in June left a lasting impression on many.
The Paris Olympics is quickly approaching, with Thompson set to make his Olympic debut at this year’s Games. The twenty-three-year-old 9.77s win is currently the world-leading time, but Thompson has expressed that we have not yet seen his fastest time on the track.
“Running the three rounds at this championship has helped me better understand my body and the sport. I was never short on confidence, but I believe I have much more to do as I can run way faster.”
He continued, “Deep down, I look forward to some great competition and nice vibes from the top sprinters,” Thompson stated to World Athletics.
The sprinter’s injuries have affected his performance in the past, he has suffered from shin splints as well as hamstring injuries. In regards to his fitness, Thompson said, “This year is the best I’ve ever been health-wise.”
The promising young athlete is a native of Mitchell Town, Clarendon, and has a twin brother, Kishaun.
While Kishaun may not be with his brother physically on the track, he remains with him in spirit at all times, with Kishane often kissing a special amulet that symbolises the brothers’ love, motivation, and inspiration before his races.
