Steve McClaren “Confident” Jamaica Can Qualify for Next World Cup

The man tasked with taking Jamaica’s senior men’s team to the next World Cup in 2026, 63-year-old English football coach Steve McClaren did his first interview as head coach of the Reggae Boyz, the interview was released on Thursday, August 15.
McClaren who was coaching at Manchester United before taking up the Jamaica job ‘ticked all the boxes’ with regards to requirements for the next Reggae Boyz head coach stated the JFF following his appointment.
According to the veteran coach, apart from the skilled players in the team, he loves the “togetherness”, highlighting that the players love to be around each other in national camps “Everybody loves come join up for Jamaica,” he stated.
McClaren who was unveiled on August 8th via a press conference, stated that he’s looking forward to his first match vs Cuba on September 6. He also said that he’s “confident as can be” with regards to the Boyz qualifying for the upcoming World Cup.
Nevertheless, he’s looking forward to the first camp because he wants to have good comradery and build from there.
On the heels of losing three straight matches in Copa America, Jamaica’s men’s team fell six places down the worldwide Fifa Rankings that was last updated on July 18. Currently, the Boyz are Ranked 59th in the world.
Reacting to the coach, one supporter of the Reggae Boyz commented, “Coach make sure you know your assignment. RECRUIT RECRUIT RECRUIT. WE NEED AN ALL EPL PLAYER SQUAD COMPETING FOR WORLD CUP NOT GO THERE AND LOSE EVERY MATCH LIKE COPA.”
