Footage surfaced a day ago of Vybz Kartel showing a signed paper and announcing that he will be performing in Trinidad 2025 at the One Caribbean Festival Carnival on February 28.

“The event on Carnival Friday it is not a Vybz Kartel concert. It’s a Caribbean Cultural Festival featuring Kartel,” an organiser of the event reported outlined following the online backlash. The event will take place in Port of Spain and will feature many pupular Soca, calypso, and dancehall genres.

One of the first known people to talk out on the endeavour is soca artiste Yankey Boy who has made several posts over the past 24 hours, detailing why he does not want to have Dancehall at Carnaval.

Notably, many others have highlighted the positive side of the Jamaican performing in Trinidad with one man on TikTok pointing out that Beyonce also performed in Trinidad during carnival season and it did not affect Soca music and Carnival.

“Do you all think that Vybz Kartel is overstepping his celebrityhood?” a Trinidadian female asked in a video that is now making rounds on TikTok.

She went on to laugh and detail that “he feel he bigger than Trinidad carnival!… I don’t think noting is destroying Trinidad Carnival and i don’t think Vybz Kartel gonna trump Trinidad carnival,” she also stated at another point in her chat.

Under the video, a TikTok user commented, “The promoters very disrespectful to bring him when they no its carnival time, that upsets me, we can’t do that in other people country.”
