Kaylan Dowdie’s Mother Bashes Peter Champagnie for Representing Her Daughter’s Alleged Attackers

Suggesting that he is a hypocrite, Kaylan Dowdie’s mother, Veneshia Buckley, has called out lawyer Peter Champagnie for helping her daughter’s alleged attackers.

Veteran journalist Barbara Gayle was found dead at her home at the Caymanas Estate Country Club on December 17. A suspect was later taken into custody, and Champagne expressed last week that he has no intentions of representing the man.

The prominent defence attorney said that while he believes that everyone should get legal representation, he could not represent anyone connected to the murder of a “dear friend.” Following his statements, Buckley went live to bashed Champagnie for choosing when to represent criminals, such as her daughter’s accused attackers because of friendship.

“This a nuh if or but nor maybe… These are facts. Tings weh mi know. These are things that I know. A him friend dem. Di gyal dem family memba and Champgnie a friend dats why him represent them. Now when it suit yuh yah guh seh yuh nah represent badman weh kill yuh friend. But when it suit yuh yah guh represent badman because dem a yuh friend,” Buckley said.

The disgruntled mother went on to state that it has been four years since her daughter was attacked and forced to use a wheelchair. She expressed annoyance that while her daughter’s life has been forever changed she is yet to receive justice.

Describing Champagnie as a “scum,” Buckley continued to bash the lawyer in her video statement.

“Champagnie yah scum. Scum. Yuh mix wid badman, yuh live wid badman, yuh walk and yuh talk wid bad man and unuh a laugh. Unuh behave like the law belong to unuh. You are a shame and disgrace,” Buckley said.

She further stated that she accepts responsibility for allowing Kaylan to attend an illegal party. However, Buckley expressed that her daughter was so young and just about to start her life she did not deserve what happened to her.

According to Buckley, her daughter’s case continues to be delayed because it is surrounded by corruption.

“The court case is riddled with corruption. From the detective to the lawyer dem, di gyal dem, di badman dem, everybody. One line of corruption… Imagine enuh, the detectives who are on the case and who are supposed to be prosecuting di gyal dem, deh wid di gyal dem. Di lawyer weh suppose to deh pan di case and dem a friend. Champagnie… You and di gyal dem family memba a bench and batty,” Buckley stated.
