Gramps, Mojo Talk on Peter’s ‘Shocking’ Passing, Morgan Heritage’s Current Lead Vocalist, New Music and More

Gramps and Mojo of Morgan Heritage recounted losing their brother and leader of the band Peter aka Peetah last February, they also showed their property in St. Thomas, talked about nowadays Dancehall and details plans for the future in a newly released interview with Anthony Miller on Entertainment Report.

Gramps Morgan talked on Peetah’s passing after a short period of illness being a surprise to everyone, detailing that Peetah was in Jamaica and after he returned to the States he fell ill. As it relates to Peetah’s cause of death, Gramps mentioned that it was something that he did not wish to make public and left it up to Peetah’s family.

“The passing of Peetah was a shock to the world nobody was expecting that at the time… There was no health issues, there was no Aids no cancer, nothing crazy like that,” says Gramps before detailing that, “It was a one in a million thing, i still don’t even know how to pronounce the name.”

Peter, the lead singer of Morgan Heritage, passed away on February 25, 2024, almost a year ago. As it relates to Peetah’s singing ability, Gramps stated, “He is one of the greatest singers of all time across all genres.”

Further on in the interview, Gramps outines that, “Morgan Heritage is open for Business, my son Jamere is singing lead vocals for now, we have Morgan Heritage unreleased album.. Jamaica, it’s Morgan Heritage to the year 3000 and beyond… The mission continues… Jah P seh carry on Jah works and a that we gonna do.”

According to reports in early 2024, Peter had been hospitalised in the United States for weeks following a stroke. Mojo Morgan also recalled being in St. Thomas with Popcaan and Chronic Law when his brother got ill. He revealed that he was at Peetah’s side during his last days.

Morgan Heritage was initially comprised of Peter and his siblings Una Morgan, Roy “Gramps” Morgan, Nakhamyah “Lukes” Morgan, and Memmalatel “Mr. Mojo” Morgan. Before Peetah’s passing at 47 years old, the groups mainly consisted of Gramps, Peetah and Mojo on the road together performing.

In the interview, Mojo Morgan also spoke on releasing new music via a new project which will include a song that features several young local artistes such as Pablo YG, Popcaan and Chronic Law.

Mojo states, “It’s a hybrid of hip-hop as the rapper inna the group, alternative rock music that i grew up on… but at the same time i’ma a Reggae artiste as a member of Morgan Heritage suh you put all together in one cosmic sound and you get rasta rock.”

Gramps Morgan is also set to release his very own musical project in the near future.

Speaking on the music that the local artistes are mainly producing nowadays, Gramps expressed that Afrobeat music is fun and party-oriented hence it’s winning over Dancehall at the moment. “This is where Afro Beats is winning over Dancehall right now,” he stated, alluding to making fun and happy music himselve.
