Almost 11 years later, Alkaline’s former manager, Dwayne Morris of Cahban Rekords, has broken his silence on the alleged near-death experience he faced at the hands of the entertainer. He also shared how he was crucial in building the Vendetta Boss career, only for the artiste to turn against him.

Speaking on camera, with a picture of broken car glass in the background, Morris stated that he keeps the photo as a reminder of how ungrateful people can be and why he finds it difficult to trust others.

Background Information According to Morris’ Account

Morris claims to have played a crucial role in the early stages of launching Alkaline’s music career. According to him, their professional relationship began when he met the entertainer (real name Earlan Bartley) while teaching music at Ardenne High School, where the young artiste was a student in Grade 10.

Recognizing Alkaline’s talent from the early stages, Morris stated that, given his background in the music as a member of Ruff Kutt Band and having toured with other artistes, he signed a management contract with him in 2012.

By mid-2013, Morris shared that Alkaline’s music started to gain traction, which he credits to investing his time and money to the point of nearly depleting his entire savings to promote the young artiste.

The Fallout Between Morris and Alkaline

In about 2014 according to Morris, he organized an ‘Alkaline in Concert‘ show and during the planning stages, he claims to have realized something was off with the entertainer. He said that soon after, he received a call from Alkaline, accusing him of being a criminal.

However, he said the issue was ultimately set aside, and the show went on as planned.

Morris further detailed that Alkaline charged $180,000 for the show, which was considered a significant amount at that time. He noted that he gave him $90,000 upfront, with the balance to be paid after the show.

However, after personally covering the majority of the shows’ expenses, Morris revealed that he did not have that money to pay. “I spent almost $900,000 to put on that show and only made $60,000 at the gate,” he admitted.

Confrontation Between Alkaline and Morris after the Show

After the event, while packing up, Morris said that he noticed Alkaline approaching with his entourage, and at that moment, he feared for his life. He said that the Vendetta Boss came up to him and demanded the remaining $90,000.

“After the show done and we a pack up, me see bout 200 man a walk through the gate, and him (Alkaline) a lead dem. And fi tell unu the truth, me see me life flash in front a me,” Morris detailed.

He continued further, “Me genuinely think me did ago lose me life dah night deh. Yow, the man basically just stand right up ina me face and a demand the balance fi the show. Me never have it, cause the show never mek no money.”

However, Morris revealed that he had brought a few police friends with him and expressed gratitude for their presence, believing the situation could have unfolded much differently without them.

He also expressed deep disappointment with the events that transpired, reflecting on the sacrifices he made to invest in Alkaline’s career, and also spoke of the bond they both shared on a personal and professional level.

But, that night Morris said was the end of their relationship.

Second Incident Between Morris and Alkaline

Morris also recalled another incident when he traveled to Ocho Rios to play the keyboard for Bounty Killer at a show where Alkaline was also performing. He claimed that while backstage, the entertainer and his entourage taunted him, however, due to being outnumbered, he did not react.

Instead, he attempted to reach out to Alkaline to discuss their fallout, but the artiste refused.

After returning to the stage and finishing his performance, Morris said he saw his then-girlfriend, who had been sleeping in his car, with her hand bleeding while a police officer comforted her. It was then that he learned that Alkaline’s crew had vandalized his car, injured his girlfriend, and thrown a stone at her chest. To this day, he claims she still bears the scar.

Morris then criticized how Alkaline handled the situation, stating that he could have faced him like a man and address their differences directly instead of resorting to violence. “Yuh never even man enough fi face me… Yuh mash up me car, bro, and attack me woman,” he said.

No Hard Feelings

Despite everything, Morris says that he holds no grudges and is proud of Alkaline’s success, as it was something they once dreamed of together.
