To commemorate its one-year anniversary in Jamaica, popular audio streaming service Spotify has provided a comprehensive list detailing the most popular artistes and songs in Dancehall and Reggae for the past 12 months.

According to Spotify’s data, Dancehall music has been listed as the leading genre with over 370,000 playlists created since last year by users.

Moreover, Jamaica’s pioneer of Reggae, the great Bob Marley is deemed to be the biggest artiste internationally. Interestingly, however, the long-standing reign of the “Gaza Boss” has come to an end as he was dethroned by the “Vendetta Boss” Alkaline as the most played local artiste in Jamaica. Likewise, Dancehall princess Shenseea took the #1 spot for the most-played female artiste.

Three different categories were highlighted by Spotify which showed names of some of Dancehall and Reggae’s heavy hitters whose songs have created waves on the audio streaming service, thus earning them a spot on the charts. The categories are: Most played local songs, Most played Jamaican artistes outside of Jamaica and Most played female artistes in Jamaica.

For the category of Most played local artiste, Alkaline heads the list at #1 while the incarcerated Deejay Vybz Kartel holds the #2 spot and Masicka at #3. Further on in the list, there is Skillibeng at #4, Intence at #5, Popcaan at #6, Skeng at #7, Dexta Daps at #8, Chronic Law at #9 and Squash at #10.

On the other hand, in the category of Most played local songs, Skeng dominated the charts by holding down three spots, they are #1 ‘Gvnman Shift’, #3 ‘Protocol’ with Tommy Lee and #6 ‘Street Cred’.

Next in line came Alkaline who holds two spots on the chart for his songs titled ‘Hostage’ at #4 and ‘Ocean Wave’ at #9. Surprisingly, however, none of Vybz Kartel’s songs made it to the top 10 in this category.

Not surprising, in the category of Most played Jamaican artistes outside of Jamaica, Bob Marley and The Wailers are listed in the #1 spot with Sean Paul at #2 and Rvssian at #3. The other artistes based on their order are Popcaan, OMI, Vybz Kartel, Damian Marley, Beenie Man, Charly Black and Chronixx.

Furthermore, Spotify listed its last category which highlighted the top 8 Most played female artistes in Jamaica. Dancehall princess Shenseea headed the chart at #1, Jada Kingdom at #2 and Spice at #3. The other females listed based on order are Koffee, Alicia Spence, Lila Iké, Stalk Ashley and Moyann.
