Touted as the greatest one-night Reggae and Dancehall show on earth, Sting is set to make its return to the Jamworld Entertainment Complex in Portmore on December 26. The event is scheduled to take place just days ahead of Vybz Kartel’s highly anticipated Freedom Street.

During his interview on The Fix Podcast, Taheer was presented with the idea of using Alkaline at Sting 2024 to counter Kartel. When asked if he had ever approached Alkaline and the team with the idea, Taheer declared that “dem run.”

According to the event promoter, it was his first idea, and he went as far as to apologise for what caused the enmity between Alkaline and his father, Isaiah Laing.

“Mi ask dem. Dem gi mi all sort a reasonings. Mi a tell dem seh a mi a run di show. Whateva ting yuh did have wid daddy just low dat. Mi apologise. Mi tell dem seh mi sorry seh dat happen and mi nuh like seh sorry,” Taheer said.

He went on to share that Alkaline was offered a significant sum to perform, but he still turned it down. Taheer explained that Alkaline was almost featured on Sting twice, but both times it fell through.

While he did delve into all that caused the bad history between Alkaline and his father, Taheer said it appears to partially stem from an interview Laing had done. “My fada guh in a di interview and seh someting like… wi neva did need him. But yuh know seh a just feelings enuh. Rememba seh wi did really want him,” Taheer stated.

The promotor went on to express that as popular artistes disregard local events, the younger musicians follow in their footsteps and do the same. This Taheer said has caused challenges for event organisers.
