All Island Curfew to be Implemented on April 1, Runs for 7 Days

Mr. Andrew Holness, the Prime Minister has announced that effective on, Wednesday, April 1 there will be a curfew for the island starting at 8:00 pm at nights and ending at 6:00 am on the following morning.

The imposition of the curfew will end at 6:00 am on Wednesday, April 8. The measures were announced at a press conference at Jamaica House, he explained that this move became necessary as the Government expects a significant rise in the number of coronavirus infections.

Mr. Holness emphasized that this means that there will be restrictions on the movement of the public, except those that will be gazetted. Exemptions will be detailed in the gazette, to be applied to the essential services and other critical industries.

As of March 31st, Jamaica has a total of 36 positive cases of the coronavirus, one person has been released so far.

The Minister in his latest press briefing ordered all persons who entered the island between the 18 of march and the 23rd of March to contact the ministry of health and faithfully disclose all information that is required including current health status, address, telephone number, etc.

Markets hours will now be from 6 am in the morning to 2 pm in the afternoon in the week, while over the weekend it will open at 6 am and close at 6 pm.
