Retired sprinter Asafa Powell was one of Jamaica’s most dominant athletes in track and field during his career, consistently breaking the 10-second barrier in competition. One of Jamaica’s most eligible bachelors, Asafa was soon swooped up by Canadian model Alyshia Miller and the pair exchanged vows in 2019.

The Powells celebrated their fourth anniversary on Thursday, February 16, sharing anniversary messages on their Instagram pages.

“Hey best friend, happy anniversary, Four years feels like yesterday,” Asafa wrote, sharing a photograph of him and his bride on their wedding day.

Posting a black and white photo of her and Asafa after their wedding in 2019, Alyshia expressed that a lifetime with the former athlete would still not be enough.

“Four years down and a lifetime to go. All that you are is all that I ever needed. Forever wouldn’t be long enough with you. Happy anniversary, my life partner @asafasub10king,” Alyshia expressed.

The couple first met in 2012 while Asafa was in Toronto, Canada, for a track meet. Alyshia attended the event with her friend, who was a massive fan of the sprinter and could not resist asking for a photograph.

A few years later, in 2015, Asafa reached out to the model on Instagram. Alyshia jokingly shared in an episode of the couple’s podcast, Fast Lane Lifestyle, that she was hesitant at first to message him back, but her friend convinced her to talk to him once she was certain he had removed his golden goatee.

Asafa and Alyshia went on to tie the knot in a private ceremony with close friends and family in Montego Bay, St James.

Alyshia described the move to Jamaica as a culture shock in an interview on TVJ’s Smile Jamaica but said she had no doubts that he was the right one for her and was willing to make the sacrifice. The couple welcomed their first son, Amieke, in October 2019 and their second, Azhaf, in 2021.
