Attorney Isat Buchanan has extended his relationship with Vybz Kartel beyond that of his lawyer and announced that he will release a song with the incarcerated deejay pending his possible release this year.
Buchanan was found guilty of professional misconduct in 2023 after his statements referenced a song by Kartel that aimed sexually explicit language at Director of Public Prosecutions Paula Llewellyn. Buchanan was later granted a stay of his two-year suspension from practising law after appealing the ruling.
As he is free to practice until the final results of his appeal later this year, Buchanan is scheduled to represent Kartel in the United Kingdom Privy Council during his murder conviction appeal in February. Speaking with the Jamaica Star, Buchanan expressed that whether the suspension is maintained or not, he will be continuing his musical endeavours.
The attorney also explained how he incorporated last year’s controversy into his music and shared he used the incident as inspiration for his song All in Life. Further speaking on his music, Buchanan discussed his song with Vybz Kartel, which will be featured on his upcoming EP.
“After I free Vybz Kartel, I am gonna put out the song that I have with him; I’m waiting on that. I already have the song, but I won’t do anything with it unless he is in the video. So when that happens later this year, then I’ll go and do that,” Buchanan stated.
Buchanan also shared his desire to work with other entertainers, such as social media personality Queenie, who he would like to work with on the song Bad Bad Everything.
